Rob Halford Talks Alice Cooper, Detroit, and Life as the Metal God

Rob Halford Discusses Upcoming Tour with Alice Cooper

Having the opportunity to chat with Rob Halford is always a highlight. The legendary frontman of Judas Priest recently shared insights about his upcoming performance alongside Alice Cooper and Corrosion of Conformity at Pine Knob on October 2nd. The excitement surrounding this concert is palpable among fans of classic rock.

Halford and Cooper: Neighbors and Friends

I kicked off our conversation by asking Halford if he and Alice Cooper, both residing in Phoenix, ever spend time together. “Absolutely, he lives just down the street from me,” Rob chuckled. “It’s too hot to walk over, but we go way back. When I was working in retail, ‘School’s Out’ was always playing in the store. I still find it incredible that I get to talk to Alice Cooper—he’s a wonderful person, a great friend, and an extraordinary performer.”

Alice Cooper’s Support for Judas Priest

Halford reminisced about Cooper inducting Judas Priest into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame: “My first thought was about Alice’s busy schedule. I wasn’t sure if he could fit it in, but when I texted him, he replied immediately, ready to help. That’s just Alice—always genuine and supportive.”

Detroit: A Special City for Halford

Halford has a deep connection to Detroit, describing it as a city close to his heart. “When I first came to the U.S., Detroit was a place I was eager to visit. It reminds me of Birmingham—hardworking, resilient, and community-oriented. I witnessed the city endure tough times, but now it’s flourishing again. Each return to Detroit brings me immense joy.”

Remembering Ozzy Osbourne

The conversation turned to the poignant topic of Ozzy Osbourne’s passing, which affected Halford deeply. “When I heard the news, I was devastated and cried for hours. It still feels unreal. At our next concert, we performed ‘Giants in the Sky’ from Invincible Shield, which pays tribute to all the greats we’ve lost, including Lemmy, Ronnie, Freddie, Janis, and now Ozzy. Yet, I know Ozzy would want us to celebrate life and rock on. I’ll always cherish his spirit and generosity.”

Judas Priest’s Tribute to Ozzy

Halford confirmed that Judas Priest continues to open their shows with “War Pigs,” a classic metal anthem. “It ranks among the greatest metal songs ever,” he emphasized. “I was fortunate to sing with Ozzy a few times, and that bond will always remain.”

Halford’s New Action Figure

On a lighter note, Rob shared that he recently learned about his own action figure. “Friends were messaging me about it, and I had no idea what they were talking about,” he said with amusement. “I asked them to send me a picture! It’s pretty awesome. I have so much Priest memorabilia at my homes in Phoenix and England that I might just create a Metal God museum someday.”

Halford’s Message to Detroit and WRIF Listeners

As our conversation came to a close, Halford expressed his love for Detroit and the listeners of WRIF: “Mark your calendars for October 2nd—it’s going to be a fantastic event with Alice Cooper, Judas Priest, and Corrosion of Conformity. Don’t miss it! Much love to Detroit. You’ve always supported Priest and rock music, and we appreciate you.”
