Throughout the music industry, crypto and NFTs are making strides, from Snoop Dogg’s first  metaverse music video release in the Sandbox, to the Weeknd’s crypto and NFT-powered world music tour in collaboration with Binance.

Rapper and entrepreneur Snoop Dogg has been a fan of cryptocurrency, NFTs and the metaverse for some time. Snoop Dogg released the first-ever virtual music video for his song “House I Built,” featuring a virtual avatar of himself in the metaverse, on 1 April, 2022.

This marks the first-ever virtual music video produced in the Sandbox Metaverse. Later this year, Snoop Dogg plans his debut metaverse concert, also in The Sandbox.

Prior to releasing his first music video in the metaverse, Snoop Dogg bought virtual land and real estate in the Sandbox. According to the music video, Snoop Dogg paid $300K for his digital metaverse property. The price of Snoop Dogg’s metaverse mansion skyrocketed to $4.8M at the time of his music video release:

“What did it start off at?

$300,000 dollars

So it’s at $4.8 million?

Yeah

Cash”

Following Snoop Dogg’s footsteps in crypto and NFT space,  The Weeknd has partnered with cryptocurrency exchange Binance to produce the first-ever global tour to integrate Web3 technology, dubbed the After Hours Til Dawn Tour.

The chart-topper’s first-ever stadium tour begins on July 8 with a hometown show at Toronto’s Rogers Centre before heading to 17 additional destinations including New York, Philadelphia, Miami, Boston, Las Vegas and San Francisco, with a final North American stop at Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium on September 2. Dates for Mexico, South America, Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Africa and the Middle East will be announced in the coming weeks.

In line with the Canadian artist’s promise that his Summer 2022 tour will be something really special, the global tour will be the first to integrate Web3 technology for an enhanced fan experience.

NFTs will be the centerpiece of the innovative endeavor, as HXOUSE, a think-centre and community incubator for creative entrepreneurs, will launch an exclusive NFT collection as part of the collaboration, along with co-branded merchandise. In addition, the virtual ticket stubs of attendees will grant them with access to commemorative NFTs which will provide unique experiences.

The NFT hype train will then continue with an official The Weeknd x Binance NFT collection with a specially designed aesthetic, and will also include charitable elements as 5% of its revenue will be donated to The Weeknd’s XO Humanitarian Fund, a cause that was established to bolster the United Nations World Food Program fight to end world hunger.

To round things off, Binance will also be making a direct donation of $2 million to the XO Humanitarian Fund. More information on the NFT collections and co-branded tour merchandise will become available at a later stage.
